I hope everyone is enjoying this special holiday :)
For those of you are not aware of what Thanksgiving is, well.. it's complicated.
We are taught, in schools, that it was a celebration between the Pilgrims and the Native Americans, a feast of friendship and giving thanks for surviving a year in the new world. Later we learned they weren't exactly friends.
In all reality, the Pilgrims were complete jerks to the Native Americans. Like, epic jerks.
Today, it is a holiday to give thanks for the notable things you have in your life. For me, it's of course my family, friends, dogs, and my man (not necessarily in that order). Also, it's having the strength to go out and explore, the drive to make my life mean something. And macaroni and cheese. Very thankful for that.
My day started with having to teach a few lessons (the Russians don't celebrate Thanksgiving..). Then, I headed to one uncle's house, where one portion of my family was. Two hours there, then to another house to see another portion of the family. All-in-all, knocked out seeing about 30 family members in just a few hours, not bad!
So what do we do on Turkey Day? Well, we feast of course! Turkey and stuffing, cranberry sauce, mashed potatoes, and pumpkin pie. And so much more. Yummm. Then everyone relaxes, chats, watches football, and in my family, shoot guns. Yee-haw!
The day after Thanksgiving is Black Friday, the day with the best shopping sales of the year, as well as the worst shopping experiences possible. Like, people get trampled to death. Personally, I have evolved into an online shopper (are you surprised? I'm online most of the time anyway!). No waking up at 4am to try and score a deal for me!
All together, Thanksgiving is a holiday with a dark past, but is currently a beloved family celebration time. Followed by one the greatest materialism shows known to man. What's not to love?
What are you most thankful for in your life?
