So, this craft is not necessarily just for Halloween. The blog I got the idea from actually did it with clear vases from the dollar store, and painted them white.
I decided to do it one day when I realized that I had run out of coffee, but the container it had come in could be recycled for a craft! Also, we had some leftover black spray paint, which is perfect because it is almost Halloween.
Those of you who are avid coffee drinkers probably just realized that "coffee from a jar" means instant coffee. Sigh, yes. I'm not proud of it, but I am a ridiculously frugal person, and the price was too much to pass up. No judgements. Want me to drink better coffee? I'll send you my PayPal address, and you can contribute to the "Sarah Needs Real Coffee Fund".
Anyway, back to the candle holder.
This is a super easy craft. All you need is twine (also, people do it with rubber bands), tape, paint, and the jar.First, artistically wrap the twine around the jar (meaning wrap it so you think it looks nice). I quickly realized that twine is not a big fan of staying in place wrapped around a glass jar. Expect to use a few pieces of tape. Obviously, when you paint it, where the tape is will not be painted. So, I made sure that all the pieces of tape were on one side of the jar- effectively, the "back side".
Then, spray paint. Watch your fingers. Obviously I didn't. Also, somehow got paint on my cell phone. Good going, Sarah.
When the paint is DRY, take the twine off. This is the biggest mistake people make (I know, you are thinking duhhh). Spray paint dries quickly, but I'd give it an hour or two, just in case.
And, voila!
A beautiful, simple candle holder. Unfortunately, I only have little tea lights, so it doesn't look as spooky and enticing as I would like. But it was so easy, I will definitely be making a matching one soon!
