I first discovered Mile Marker while looking for random Groupons to give as presents. I was drawn to it, partly because of the cute logo, and partly for the location- it is all of 5 minutes from my house! It doesn't get much better than that!
Mile Marker Brewing isn't located in downtown St. Augustine, instead it is housed in a warehouse off of 208 and 16- not really a place the tourists usually go. This is great news for the people who do like to drink there- the locals. Don't get me wrong, you can try their beers on tap at many locations in St. Augustine, but if you want the real deal, head over to their warehouse. You get the pleasure of not only seeing where it is made and hanging out with the people who made it, but also enjoying the company of people who are looking for something a little different than the touristy ambience of St. George Street.
Currently, Mile Marker offers variations of 5 main beers, including the Ancient City Red Ale, Palm Beach Coconut Porter, and Islamorada IPA. My personal favorite is the Pecan de Leon Nut Brown Ale- partly because of the wonderful nutty flavor and partly because of the delightfully witty name!
When we walked into the Tap Room, the bartender automatically asked us if we had visited before, and then introduced herself. She gave us free tastes, and answered all sorts of questions for us. That, combined with the wonderful atmosphere, delicious drinks, and happy hour (2 for 1? Yes please!), Mile Marker Brewing is a great place to visit (for tourists and locals alike) and ideal if you are looking for a new watering hole away from the Spring Break teens and pale snowbirds wearing sandals and socks together.
